We are called to be stewards of the environment

Polling suggests climate change needs to be addressed at a state level ahead of the election

NSW, along with WA, are the only two states without a renewable energy target. The issue of climate change is normally viewed as a Federal issue, but polling suggests climate change needs to be addressed at a state level ahead of the election.

The ABC reports that climate change is among the top 3 issues for voters, and both major parties need to address the lack of renewable energy supply in NSW if they want to form Government on March 23rd. And considering the recent fish kills in Menindee Lakes, the worsening drought in NSW and a record hot summer for much of NSW we do need to address this climatic change.

The NSW Labor party have announced if elected it would set a renewable energy target of 50% by 2030, and rebates for homes installing solar panels. The NSW Liberals are promising low interest loans for solar battery systems for some households and a zero net emissions target by 2050.

The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) policy in regard to the environment is as follows;

“Human survival globally is dependent upon the natural world. We are called to be stewards of the environment, ensuring the right balance is struck between the good and sustainable use of the earth. This means we support sustainable use of the environment, proper conservation and to ensure biodiversity. Our living world is the environment in which we live and we will live with the consequences of how we manage it. Economic paradigm of maximising exploitation of the natural resources must be balanced with a caretaking and sustainability paradigm.”

The Bible commands us in Genesis to rule over the earth and that by His word He created the earth and the heavens and every living thing. I believe it is our responsibility as Christians to do what is in our power to look after the earth, ensuring it can be enjoyed for generations to come and so it can be used as a testament to future generations of the glory of our great God.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4.
