It has been an honour and a privilege to serve God in the NSW Parliament for the last 8 years and, while I was hoping for an opportunity to be able to continue to do this, this is not how it has turned out.
It came down to the last of the distribution of preferences, resulting is the Christian Democratic Party talking the 22nd place, and being the last one to be excluded. God is sovereign and Michelle and I are trusting that he has a plan for us, and that his ways are higher than our ways.
Christian values will still be ably represented by Fred, and he will need the ongoing and fervent prayers of the Christian community as he continues to be salt and light and to stand up for religious freedom, special religious education in schools, and as he continues to work towards a government that provides a strong economy and has a heart for the vulnerable and those in need. As well as your prayers, he will need the ongoing support of Christians as CDP fulfils its mandate of being a Christian voice and continues to stand up for important legislation such as the Modern Slavery Act. With such a diverse cross bench, the CDP is looking to bring people together and show leadership as we have done for the last 36 years - we will need the prayers and action of the Christian community more than ever.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank my staff who have worked so tirelessly to support me. They have been a real encouragement to me throughout my time in the Parliament, and I am grateful for them and to them. Please pray for them as they look for God’s leading as to where he would have them go next.
Thank you for all your prayers, support and encouragement for me and Michelle and our family throughout this process – we have felt much loved. Please pray for us as we seek God’s will for where he would have us serve him next.
