Dubbo is experiencing an increasing prevalence of drug, alcohol and mental health problems
Dubbo is experiencing an increasing prevalence of drug, alcohol and mental health problems. In 2012/2013 there were 10 per 100,000 hospitalisations due to methamphetamine, this jumped to 110 per 100,000 in 2015/2016. In the same period crimes from cannabis use/possession rose 7.9%, and crimes from amphetamines use/possession rose 40.3%. The current facilities for drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Dubbo and Western NSW are inadequate and have 2-3 month waits for admission.
I spent the weekend in Dubbo with Maurice Davey, CDP candidate for Orange and the Mayor of Dubbo, Ben Shields. After spending time touring a Drug Rehabilitation Centre, and hearing the communities concerns it is evident we need more beds in rehab centres in regional and remote NSW. I will be calling on the Liberals and Nationals to back state Labor’s promise to build a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Dubbo
“Addiction is crushing to our community, crime rates, health services and families. And it leads to devastating domestic violence, psychological and legal issues. I believe that all people were created with the same dignity and value and deserve equal access to high quality health care. And therefore will continue to advocate for greater access to drug rehabilitation services in Regional NSW.” Paul Green said.
The CDP is for families and is committed to ensuring we do everything within our power to ensure NSW delivers a first-class health system for the broad population cities, urban and regional population, and that health care should be available, accessible and affordable.
Paul Green and Maurice Davey are committed to continuing to advocate to have this matter addressed by the incoming government.
